To the artists featured on the artist trail:

Heimito von Doderer 5.8.1986 - 23.12.1966
was the figurehead of Austrian literature in the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s.
After the war, from February to May 1946, he lived in the house of his uncle, the entrepreneur Richard von Doderer in the Forstamt district of Steinbach am Attersee. During this time, he wrote a substantial part of his monumental novel "Die Strudelhofstiege". This social novel is Heimito von Doderer's magnum opus and one of the greatest works of Austrian literature.
The "real" Strudelhofstiege is an architecturally and literary-historically remarkable staircase in Vienna's 9th district

Otto Tressler 13.4.1871 to 27.4.1965
The actor Otto Tressler took pleasure in sporting activities. Otto Tressler remained faithful to sailing and swimming into old age. From his sailing boat "Halunke", at the age of 90, he still headed into Lake Attersee, where he had spent so many summers.

Friedrich Gulda 16.5.1930 to 27.1.2000
Friedrich Gulda lived in Weißenbach am Attersee from 1962 to 2000. Here, surrounded by mountains and the lake, he found the seclusion and tranquillity he needed for his work. In his studio in the "Meierhof" he composed and interpreted his music - from classical to jazz to free music with his turn to youthful dance music.

Charlotte Wolter 1.3.1834 to 14.6.1897
Together with her husband Count O'Sullivan, Charlotte Wolter bought two old farmhouses right next to the Hotel Post in Weißenbach am Attersee, which she had converted into stylishly furnished summer villas. This is where Vienna's biggest heroin and celebrated actress of the Burgtheater spent her summer retreats.

Gustav Mahler 7.7.1860 to 18.5.1911
In the summer of 1893, Mahler found the peace and seclusion he desired for his work in Steinbach am Attersee. Here he also fulfilled his wish to have his own work cottage, which he moved into in 1894. He made good progress with his work at Attersee. He completed the II. Symphony and composed the Third Symphony.

Gustav Klimt 14.7.1862 to 6.2.1918
Gustav Klimt, the most important painter of Art Nouveau, sought annual recreation and inspiration at Lake Attersee from 1900 to 1912 and from 1914 to 1916, where most of his landscape paintings were created. He lived here in the Forsthaus (see Station B), his life-lady Emilie Flöge in the guest house of Villa Brauner in Gmauret.
