Description: The trail leading into the Hallstatt High Valley remains closed due to construction work, even after the Salzwelten reopens.
Take the state-of-the-art funicular to the world’s oldest salt mine!
The new valley station welcomes guests with the Salzwelten flagship store, and at the mountain station, the new “Weitblick 7000” bistro and a viewing terrace invite you to linger.
An unforgettable trip to the world’s oldest salt mine
The wind gently brushes your face. Deep below you, Lake Hallstatt glistens. Colorful houses line the shore. You feel the vastness, squint into the sun, enjoy the warmth… and remember that just a short while ago, you were exploring the tunnels deep inside the mountain. That you whizzed down wooden miners’ slides and walked in the footsteps of those who lived here millennia ago—in the Hallstatt Salt Worlds, the world’s oldest salt mine!
After a short walk through the Hallstatt High Valley, the Hallstatt Salt Worlds welcome you with a hearty “Glück Auf!” Your exciting journey into the heart of the mountain begins at the Miners’ House: First, you’ll walk into the mountain, where you’ll explore the tunnels underground with a Salzwelten guide, zoom down the miners’ slide, and learn fascinating stories and facts about salt mining. What’s more, the world’s oldest salt mine holds another record: Europe’s oldest wooden staircase—built 2,800 years ago—was discovered in the prehistoric Hallstatt tunnels! A thrilling ride on the mine train brings you back up to the surface.
After exploring the depths of the mountain, another highlight awaits you—in the truest sense of the word: the Hallstatt Skywalk! A twelve-meter-long walkway that juts out into thin air! Do you dare to go all the way to the very front? If you do, an unforgettable view—complete with an adrenaline rush—awaits you, overlooking the world-famous Lake Hallstatt, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt, and the surrounding mountains!
Due to the extremely heavy traffic, we strongly recommend traveling by public transportation!
