As every year, the traditional Corpus Christi procession takes place in Hallstatt on Lake Hallstatt. At 9.00 a.m. the festive mass takes place in the Catholic parish church, followed by the procession along the lake.
When all the inhabitants of Hallstatt decorate their "Fuhren", the traditional boats on the lake, with foliage and flowers and the whole town puts on its festive dress, it is Corpus Christi. The Jesuits once introduced the magnificent procession to Hallstatt. Because the small saltworks town had so little space on land, the procession was once moved onto the lake in boats and salt ships , not least to get a view of the Salzberg, the millennia-old workplace of the people of Hallstatt.
