The search for medieval traces in Schärding continues

The historical guided tours last year continued to be so popular that in year seven after the town's anniversary "700 years of Schärding town law 1316-2016", the honorary town archivist Mag. art. Mario H. Puhane offers a free historical journey back in time to the Middle Ages once a quarter for individual guests from Schärding and the surrounding area.

Of course, this year's programme also includes the cellar vaults under today's kindergarten ("Eiskeller") and the "Baualterplan" for an interactive exploration of when Schärding's buildings were built.
If you are interested, please contact the Schärding Tourist Office by telephone on +43(0)7712/4300-0 or by email at stadtarchiv@schaerding.ooe.gv.at log in
Some traces of the Middle Ages are still clearly visible in the town today, others need to be rediscovered: The gate hall of the parish church of St. Georg parish church, the pillars of the old Inn bridge, the "Frankinger Hof" as the ducal land judge and caretaker's house, the town fortifications with the walls and the mighty gates (Wassertor, Passauer Tor and Linzer Tor), the portal of the Heiliggeist hospital church and the remains of Schärding Castle (Zwinger, moat and castle gate) with the reconstructed draw well still show the genesis of the settlement and the eventful history of Schärding as a central market town with its squares (Upper and Lower Town Square). In 1316, Schärding was granted the Bavarian town charter by the Lower Bavarian dukes. And the medieval scissors can still be found in the official town coat of arms to this day.
