Vergeiner Haus

The house where the Vergeiner brothers were born was already in an extremely privileged location at the time, as the corner house in Waaggasse/Rathausgasse was in the immediate vicinity of Freistadt's town hall and church. The town weigh house was also located right next to the house where he was born - in today's Waaggasse no. 6.

As the name suggests, goods and livestock were weighed in the Waaghaus from 1571 to 1940. There were also several inns, a bakery and a brewery in the same alley. Until 1935, Rothausgasse was also home to one of the municipal fountains, which the brothers must have used extensively, as they were already in their early 30s when the municipal water supply was opened in Freistadt in 1890.
