Impressive personalities, family fortune and a love of beer characterise the history of the Schnaitl private brewery. Founded in 1842, the family business is one of the small, very fine breweries in the Innviertel region. The current generation, Matthias Schnaitl IV, took over the management in 2002. Since then, the beers have regularly and very successfully taken part in quality competitions, such as the DLG award, the Monde Selection, the Austrian Beer Award, the Culinarix, the Brauring quality seal and the Meininger Award. The Schnaitl Braugasthof in Gundertshausen has been a three-star hotel since 2012. Since 2010, a hop show garden right next to the Schnaitl brewery has been focussing on the raw materials used in beer production. In addition, malting barley has been grown on the brewery's own agricultural land again since 2012. In 2013, the production of Schnaitl beers rose to a peak of 12,500 hectolitres. To date, several new varieties have been introduced under the management of Matthias Schnaitl IV: Schnaitl "Dunkel" in keg and bottle (2006), Schnaitl "Radler naturtrüb" (2012), Schnaitl "Maibock" (2013) and in 2015 the first production and very successful launch of the Christmas festive beer "Stille Nacht".
