The Gallery Schloss Parz presents with Wolfgang Stifter, who celebrated his 80th birthday this year, Annerose Riedl and Alois Riedl, three Upper Austrian positions that are also prominently represented in the book "FINISH" 1964-1998 of the artists' center Parz with one work each. This era of the avant-garde in Parz, the artist community that is known beyond Austria's borders, has been strongly shaped by Wolfgang Stifter, as well as Annerose Riedl and Alois Riedl with their works and spirit.
Duration of the exhibition: November 2 to December 21, 2026
Opening hours: Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and Monday from 12:00-3:00 p.m.
Wolfgang Stifter (born 1946 in Ottensheim), one of the master students of Maximilian Melcher, recipient of the cultural award of the state of Upper Austria for visual arts, taught as a professor at the University of Art Linz until 2014, of which he was rector from 1991 to 2000.
“As a painter, one wants to trigger, to be the cause of an effect”
Restless creativity over decades, numerous self-contained blocks of work, constant note-taking, sketching, fixing images from the mind, and yet discipline and control over all that is accidental, this could characterize Stifter's work.
Annerose Riedl (born 1949 in Passau) came to sculpture as a self-taught artist. Her mostly female, always barefoot figures she prefers to carve from linden wood and then finish them, while leaving the traces of the carving tools consciously visible. Far from any idealization, they radiate a calm, powerful presence. Annerose Riedl's community of collectors extends far beyond the borders of Upper Austria
Alois Riedl (born 1935 in St. Marienkirchen near Schärding) developed his visual language as a self-taught artist, independent of artistic movements. “Drawing is an art of seeing - and in the work of Alois Riedl, a laboratory of form” Alfred Weidinger on the: truth of form - Alois Riedl's drawings. The starting point of his painting is often everyday objects such as discarded chairs, sofas, or mattresses, and in recent years, windows that he transforms between figuration and abstraction into powerful, reduced, sometimes fine graphic or fully painted image forms.
