A Baroque Christmas
"and marvel at the wisdom!"
From the magnificent solo motet by Maestro di Capella Claudio Monteverdi in Venice during the Christmas season to the living rooms where Lutherans gathered for prayer in central Germany, this program takes listeners on a journey into the emotional worlds of people in the Baroque era, always with the aim of drawing closer to the mystery of the Incarnation through the language of music.
From the simple sacred song in Johann Sebastian Bach’s exquisite compositions, through heartfelt lullabies, to the speechless wonder of experiencing a supernatural light that makes the human midnight shine with the radiance of a thousand heavenly suns, the music of “Night of all Nights” from that era a moving experience for people today as well.
Georgina Fürstenberg, with her bell-like soprano, and Alois Mühlbacher, with his warm, golden alto voice, will give voice to this wonder. They will be accompanied by Hubert Hoffmann on the lute, the most intimate musical instrument ever to grace the stage of European music.
