Gedenkveranstaltung & Erinnerungscafé

Commemorative Event & Remembrance Café
as part of the International Human Rights Festival from November 5–9, 2026

The 10th International Human Rights Festival will take place from November 5 to 9, 2026—and, of course, the market town of Schwertberg will once again be participating with various events and invites everyone to join in.

Commemoration at the Market Square
On Sunday, November 8, the “Bewusstseinsregion” Working Group invites everyone to join in a collective commemoration of the victims of the Mühlviertel “Hare Hunt.” Following a welcome address at 2:00 p.m., a memorial service with musical accompaniment will take place at the memorial on the market square and then in the courtyard of the market town of Schwertberg.

Storytelling Café at the Volksheim
The event will then continue at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Volksheim Schwertberg with coffee and cake. At 3:00 p.m., a special storytelling café is on the program: Eyewitnesses will share stories about their youth and personal experiences from the war and postwar periods—including encounters with war refugees, displaced persons, and forced laborers; the days and months following liberation; and the occupation by American and Russian forces.
Children and teenagers are warmly welcome!
Young people in particular are warmly invited to talk with the eyewitnesses, ask questions, and learn about history firsthand. Interviews, historical photos, and documents will complement these personal exchanges.

We look forward to seeing you!
The market town of Schwertberg looks forward to welcoming many interested visitors and to an intergenerational afternoon of remembrance and listening.
