"Let's Fly Away"
Vocal
The title "Let's Fly Away," taken from the closing line of "Come Fly with Me," represents a program that focuses on the versatility and richness of the human voice.
It traverses over five centuries of music and connects different sound worlds: from the intricately woven polyphony of the Renaissance, through the dense choral textures of the 19th century, to contemporary works, jazz, folk songs, and pop.
Compositions by William Byrd, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and Anton Bruckner open up spaces of clear, often radiant sound. This is contrasted by the reduced, searching tonal language of Arvo Pärt, Caroline Shaw, and Paul Smith, as well as the stylistically diverse yet equally characteristic voices of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Ben Folds, Bobby McFerrin, and Simon & Garfunkel.
Thus unfolds a program that shifts between various forms of expression and sound concepts, making the possibilities of the voice audible in its full breadth.

The British vocal ensemble VOCES8, nominated for a Grammy in 2023, is proud to inspire people through music and convey the joy of singing. Since its founding in 2005, VOCES8 has performed in many renowned concert halls, including Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall (BBC Proms), Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Berlin Philharmonic, Cité de la Musique Paris, Vienna Concert Hall, Tokyo Opera City, NCPA Beijing, Sydney Opera House, Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Victoria Concert Hall Singapore, Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City, and many others.
They have collaborated in concerts and in the studio with musicians such as Paul Simon, Jacob Collier, Eric Whitacre, Christopher Tin, Olafur Arnalds, Cody Fry, Rachel Podger, Jack Liebeck, Bomsori Kim, Jonathan Dove, Chanticleer, The King’s Singers, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, and others.
VOCES8 is passionately committed to musical education and is the flagship ensemble of the non-profit VOCES8 Foundation, which actively advocates for musical education for all. The foundation engages in a wide range of outreach work that reaches up to 40,000 people each year and conducts an annual program of workshops and masterclasses at the VOCES8 Centre in St Anne & St Agnes Church in London. To support promising young singers, VOCES8 awards eight choir scholarships annually under the VOCES8 Scholars initiative. These scholarships are linked to the annual Milton Abbey Summer School, where amateur singers of all ages learn and perform with VOCES8. Through the separate VOCES8 USA Foundation, there is an additional group of twelve talented scholars.
The entrepreneurial and community spirit of VOCES8 is fostered by co-founders Paul and Barnaby Smith. The Covid19 pandemic prompted VOCES8 to reshape its already exceptional offerings and create a new online audience community, providing opportunities to engage with classical music in new ways. Groundbreaking initiatives include the online festival LIVE From London and the VOCES8 Digital Academy.
LIVE From London was launched as a special response to the pandemic. The team has been praised for its collaboration with artists, the press, and audiences worldwide and has held ten digital festivals to date, streamed over 150 concerts, and sold more than 250,000 tickets worldwide. This season, there will be online festivals for both Christmas and summer. The VOCES8 Digital Academy is an online choir program for secondary schools, colleges, and individuals, offering live interaction with ensemble members, live and recorded lectures, and video resources for learning and performing music from the Renaissance to the present day. Both LIVE From London and the Digital Academy are recorded by the VOCES8 Studios, the in-house recording company.
In addition to this online work, VOCES8 is regularly featured on albums, international television, and radio. The ensemble is a Decca Classics artist and also releases under its own label, VOCES8 Records. The Decca Classics recording of Christopher Tin’s The Lost Birds with VOCES8 and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was nominated for a Grammy in 2023. Recent releases include Twenty, Nightfall, and A Choral Christmas, in which VOCES8, together with its own Foundation Choir and Orchestra, presents a selection of popular Christmas songs and the premiere of Taylor Scott Davis' Magnificat; Home conducted by Eric Whitacre with his remarkable work The Sacred Veil, which topped the classical charts in both the UK and the USA; and Seven Psalms by Paul Simon, which VOCES8 was delighted to contribute to.
VOCES8 is proud to work with Taylor Scott Davis as Composer-in-Residence and Jim Clements as Arranger-in-Residence. The ensemble has premiered commissioned works by Jonathan Dove, Roxanna Panufnik, Roderick Williams, Paul Smith, Jason Max Ferdinand, Jocelyn Hagen, Melissa Dunphy, Ken Williams, Taylor Scott Davis, Alexander Levine, Alexia Sloane, Alec Roth, Ben Parry, Ola Gjeilo, Mårten Jansson, Philip Stopford, Graham Lack, Thomas Hewitt Jones, and Owain Park.
“The singing of VOCES8 is flawless in its sound quality and balance. They give the word ‘ensemble’ a new dimension – with precise timing and perfect intonation.” —Gramophone Magazine
