Dragonflies and Grasshoppers in the Kalkalpen National Park

Dragonflies lurking over a pond in search of prey, grasshoppers chirping in the tall grass: If you look closely, you’ll discover an astonishing diversity. In the Kalkalpen National Park, too, these tiny inhabitants call a wide variety of habitats home—and some of them are true specialists.

Herbert Kerschbaumsteiner has been studying local flora and fauna since his youth. In his lecture, he combines scientific insights with striking images and talks about unique species, exciting discoveries, and the habitats they need to survive.
As recently as 2025, for example, a dragonfly species—the Southern Blue Arrow—was documented for the first time in the Kalkalpen National Park.
