From Industrial Design to Painting: The Pioneer from Steyr

Kristian Fenzl is celebrating his 80th birthday in his hometown—with a major retrospective and a documentation of his life’s work at the Schlossgalerie Steyr.

To mark his 80th birthday, Galerie H at the Steyr Castle Gallery will present the exhibition “From Industrial Design to Painting: The Pioneer from Steyr,” dedicated to the designer and painter Univ.-Prof. Kristian Fenzl, beginning October 11, 2026.

The exhibition at the Schlossgalerie Steyr features paintings created since 2022. 

A special highlight of the exhibition opening is the presentation of the documentary “Best of Kristian Fenzl: A Journey Through Time in Design and Art.” This richly illustrated work documents the most important stages of his life and career. Maria Reitter-Kollmann, director of the Upper Austrian State Art Collection, offers a comprehensive insight into the complete body of work of one of the most significant Austrian designers of his generation.

Opening: Sunday, October 11, 2026, 6:00 p.m.– Kristian Fenzl will be present starting at 5:00 p.m.
