The opening night marks the joint kickoff of the REGATTA Water Days 2026. Participants as well as representatives from municipalities, clubs, schools, and institutions are invited to explore the diverse program and discuss shared responsibilities and options for action.

Highlights of the Evening

• Keynote Address: “Water as aKey Issue for the Future of Our Region—Why Water Literacy Is Becoming a Key Priority” by Assoc. Prof. Mag. Dr. Gabriele Weigelhofer (BOKU Vienna, WasserCluster Lunz, FLUVICHEM).

• Key Topics: Sharing knowledge about lakes, streams, springs, and ecological interrelationships for the future of the region.

• Goal: To bridge the gap between science and practice while providing opportunities for mutual exchange and networking.

Opening Night – For All Organizers and Participants of the REGATTA Water Days 2026

The opening night marks the official kickoff of the REGATTA Water Days 2026 in the Attersee-Attergau LEADER region. It is aimed at all participants as well as representatives from regional municipalities, clubs, schools, and institutions. The goal of the event is to present the diverse program of the Water Days, raise awareness of water protection, and promote dialogue between academia and the field.

The main focus of the program is a lecture by Assoc. Prof. Mag. Dr. Gabriele Weigelhofer. As the scientific director and a member of the executive board of WasserCluster Lunz, as well as the head of the FLUVICHEM research group at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, she is one of Austria’s most renowned water experts. In her keynote address, “Water as a Future Issue in Our Region—Why Water Expertise Is Becoming a Key Task,” she will shed light on the ecological interconnections between lakes, streams, and springs and explain why a solid understanding of the regional water cycle is indispensable for the future. In addition to expert insights, the evening offers opportunities for networking and joint discussions on concrete courses of action.
