Italy vs. Upper Austria

Domo Emigrantes’ musical passion lies in the Mediterranean region. With some members hailing from southern Italy themselves, they blend their own musical traditions with energetic arrangements to create a rhythmically rich and captivating musical language. Alongside guitar, violin, and percussion, they incorporate instruments that transport ears and hearts to distant lands: the Kurdish saz, ethnic flutes, fujara, bouzouki... The emotional appeal of their music reaches and captivates a wide audience, not least those who yearn for the South and the Mediterranean coast.

Alpkan describes his musical style as “music from somewhere between the Alps and the Balkans.” Since, as is well known, the Balkans begin in Vienna, Viennese slang and the Wienerlied play no insignificant role in Alpkan’s music. So it’s perfectly acceptable to grumble a bit when caught “riding without a ticket.” Alpine folk music also gets its due—which is reflected in the instrumentation, featuring trumpet, trombone, tuba, guitar, and drums. But they venture off the beaten path. After all, who says a yodel can’t sound like electronic music? Or that flamenco and polka don’t go together? In short: Musically, Alpkan is a fusion of (techno) brass, Balkan music, Viennese folk songs, jazz, and a cappella ensemble.
