Two star soloists—tenor Julian Prégardien and pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout—present a multifaceted program featuring works by Beethoven and Schubert

Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert were contemporaries and colleagues who shared a deep mutual respect. Ferdinand von Hiller, a student of Beethoven’s, recounts how his teacher was moved to tears by Schubert and the baritone Johann Michael Vogl: “Schubert had little technical skill, Vogl had little voice, but both possessed so much life and feeling, and were so completely absorbed in their performances, that it would have been impossible to render those wonderful compositions more clearly and, at the same time, more transcendentally [...] I must not speak of my own emotion or enthusiasm—but my master, who had already spent nearly half a century in music, was so deeply moved that tears beaded on his cheeks.” The Camerata Salzburg’s multifaceted program centered on the two composers features two star soloists at once: Tenor Julian Prégardien sings orchestrated Schubert lieder, including selections from the famous *Schwanengesang*, framed by Beethoven’s*Coriolan* Overtureand the final movement of Schubert’s*Tragic*Symphony No. 4. In the second half, audiences can look forward to pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout, who will perform the solo part in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major.
