Ensemble Misenos: Kaleidoscope. Baroque Music in the Habsburg Empire

The winners of the 2025 International H.I.F.-Biber Competition will perform Baroque music for soprano and trumpet by composers such as Antonio Caldara, Antonio Cesti, and Alessandro Scarlatti.

The Misenos Ensemble is named after the trumpeter of the same name from Greek mythology. The ensemble’s artistic work is centered on the interplay between the trumpet and the soprano voice in Baroque works. In their sophisticated concert program, the musicians place a special focus on composers who were active in the Habsburg Empire during the 17th century. Composers such as Antonio Caldara, Antonio Cesti, Georg Muffat, H. I. F. Biber, and Johann Joseph Fux not only left a lasting mark on Austria’s rich musical culture but also composed numerous works for soprano and trumpet.
