Poetic sounds on historic strings.

This is the title of a collection of pieces for the viola da gamba from 16th-century England, composed by Captain Tobias Hume. Much later, Igor Stravinsky also used this term: the composer creates order in the world through his sounds. In Baroque France, the viola da gamba was considered the quintessential instrument that embodied all musical poetry: a poetic song on strings that sound beautiful only when stretched to their limit.
