Experience the forest, understand how everything is connected, and take a moment to reflect.

Responsibility for creation is one of the most central issues facing our society—and thus also the Church. Since the publication of Pope Francis’s encyclical “Laudato si’,” this topic has moved even more to the forefront of the Church’s concerns. Schlägl Abbey has been fulfilling these calls to preserve and nurture creation since the 1960s. Both terms paint a fairly accurate picture of how the abbey manages its approximately 6,500 hectares of forest land. For the first time, in cooperation with the Böhmerwaldschule, we are offering a day in the forest. The focus will be on forests and wildlife, forest management and sustainability—as well as the question of Christian creation spirituality. You will be guided by a recognized expert in the field, former Rohrbach district forester Rupert Fartacek from the Böhmerwaldschule, and H. Ewald Nathanael Donhoffer. Sturdy footwear and rain gear are recommended!
