EXERCISES WITH MUSIC
Music is as old as humanity itself. In every culture, it is as much a part of life as the air we breathe. Singing and making music have always played a particularly important role in spirituality. But listening, too, has its own power. Music in every form has therefore been—and continues to be—regarded as a way to encounter the divine. In theology, this is called a “locus theologicus,” a place of encounter with God. Meditative singing, simple improvisations, the hymns from the *Gotteslob*, and listening to selected musical pieces are the focus of this course. By listening to selected pieces of music and by making music and singing ourselves, we aim to become more attuned and a little more receptive to the voice of God. Biblical reflections and one-on-one spiritual conversations deepen the personal experiences that arise from the atmosphere of silence.Schlägl 1, 4160 Aigen-Schlägl
