Peasants' War in connection with Schlägl Abbey

On May 27, 1626, shortly after the outbreak of the Upper Austrian Peasants’ War, the Schlägl Abbey was attacked by rebels from the Hausruckviertel region in an effort to secure the border with Bohemia. They did not withdraw until early September. During the second attack on October 21, David Spatt had the monastery set on fire and completely destroyed
