In *Am Rande der Müh*, the author traces the course of the mill streams through her native region, the granite highlands of the Mühlviertel, which border Bavaria and South Bohemia. The result is far more than a description of the landscape: it is a poetic exploration of the author’s homeland, in which natural and social history, geology and dialect, childhood memories and keen observation intertwine.

The jury of the German Prize for Nature Writing

praised the “Grenzlandprosa” as a narrative that showcases a natural landscape without glossing over its cultural influences—and the devastation they have wrought. In it, the river becomes a place for reflection on the relationship between humans and nature.
