When you—like the Hermann Vocal Ensemble—regularly perform on stages around the world, you know:
An audience wants to feel cherished and nurtured; it needs love and kind words so that it can flourish and perhaps even surpass itself. Like a houseplant, it is cultivated but also quite headstrong—it needs only a little light, but all the more water. And the moment you take your eyes off it, it wilts: that’s why you have to be prepared for anything—fertilize it sufficiently, prune it sometimes, talk to it now and then—and, of course, sing its praises. With nearly 15 years of experience under their belts, the Hermänner have proven themselves true grandmasters of this highly intricate botany and have already reaped numerous nominations and successes as a result.
Their new program, titled PFLANZEN (PLANTS), blossoms with flowers and nonsense; it’s a childlike poking around in the humus of the present, a collection of new favorite songs, and offers a sort of escape route from the madness of the world into a homemade raised garden bed. With their usual musical anarchism—somewhere between a cappella and stadium rock—the Gesangskapelle Hermann once again manages to whisk its audience away to a humorous and entertaining evening that will leave no eye dry.
