“Franz Lehár – The Last King of Operetta”

Stefan Frey on Franz Lehár—a lecture

With *The Merry Widow*, Franz Lehár revolutionized operetta and turned it into a global success. In his biography, Stefan Frey traces Lehár’s extraordinary life—from the heyday of the Austro-Hungarian Empire through his international fame to the difficult years of the Nazi era, during which the composer and his Jewish wife were caught between conformity and persecution.

A fascinating portrait of one of the most significant—and at the same time most controversial—composers of the 20th century.

Monday, August 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the garden of the Lehár Villa (in case of inclement weather, in the wedding hall of the Hotel Austria)

Admission: €15, including museum visit
Admission to the reading is free!
