The Kuahstadt Dilemma

The Provincial Comedy (written and directed by Günther Böcksteiner, cinematography by Peter Keplinger and Jakob Grill) is the result of a local cultural project from Bad Leonfelden. Combining professional technical expertise with the enthusiasm of local participants from the Mühlviertel region, a feature film with the potential to become a regional classic has been created over the past two years. A Q&A session with the director and cast will take place before the film.

Disaster strikes a small spa town in the Mühlviertel when local leaders discover that the state government in Linz is planning to merge two small neighboring towns with the “regional capital.”
But they have no desire to become part of this municipal alliance—the spa town residents have looked down on their neighbors for far too long and portrayed themselves as the highland elite.

As if that weren’t enough, a scandal also seems to be brewing that’s drawing nationwide attention and bringing the tax authorities in Linz onto the scene. Have they stood by for too long while
the once-thriving tourism industry has gone down the drain? And where, exactly, has the mayor responsible for this all gone? To make matters worse, sinister figures from the Czech
underworld are entering the fray, playing their very own game in this cross-border chess match…

A story unfolds that humorously pokes fun at typical Austrian customs, entertainingly spanning the spectrum from cronyism to a love story, and can be classified somewhere between *Braunschlag*, the successful Eberhofer crime novels, and the *Piefke Saga*. A must-see for Mühlviertel fans!
