Rock Musical HAIR - Steyr Music Festival

The Steryr Music Festival, under the direction of Artistic Director Prof. Karl-Michael Ebner, will bring the American tribal love-rock musical *HAIR* to the stage at the Schlossgraben in the summer of 2026.

The musical *Hair* premiered in New York in 1967 and is considered the first major rock musical in history. It reflects the spirit of the late 1960s—a time marked by protests against the Vietnam War, the rise of the hippie movement, and the call for peace, love, and freedom.

At the center of the story is a group of young people—the so-called “Tribe”—who rebel in New York against war, racism, social constraints, and political authority. They live by the motto “Make Love, Not War” and seek a life in harmony with nature and themselves. Central themes include freedom, identity, sexuality, and rejection of the establishment.
