Creative Writing for Adults

The terms theme, motif, subject matter, and premise often cause confusion among writers. However, they are essential to crafting a successful story. In this two-hour writing workshop, we’ll explore the interplay between these categories and use writing exercises to discover how they can help us structure a story. We’ll write in a relaxed atmosphere; spelling and grammar are secondary. What you write may—but doesn’t have to—be read aloud. Your texts remain with you.

You’ll need:

• Paper and at least one pen.
• If you prefer to write on your laptop, bring your laptop.

You’ll learn:

• The roles that the terms “theme,” “motif,” “subject matter,” and “premise” play in creative writing.
• How to consciously incorporate these concepts into your writing project.
• Which creativity techniques you can use for this.

This workshop is suitable for:

• Writers and beginners
• Anyone who wants to work on their own writing.
• Anyone who wants to structure their writing without making it feel mechanical.
• Anyone who wants to “plan” their story with the help of creative writing prompts.

About the Presenter: Martina Anna Linortner
Martina Anna Linortner works as a writing instructor and freelance editor in Strobl on Lake Wolfgang. She studied MultiMediaArt at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Vienna, and completed the writing instruction program at BÖS (Professional Association of Austrian Writing Instructors).
