Creative Writing for Adults

The plot unfolds through the actions and behavior of the characters. A story only becomes interesting when a character takes action and accomplishes something extraordinary. Characters are the foundation of storytelling. Without them, a story is unthinkable.
In this two-hour writing workshop, we’ll develop potential characters for your current or future writing projects. Where does your character come from? What do they look like? What defines them? What drives them? The more authentic and tangible a character is, the more strongly readers will connect with them.
We’ll write in a relaxed atmosphere; spelling and grammar are secondary. What you write may—but doesn’t have to—be read aloud. Your texts stay with you.
You’ll need:

• Paper and at least one pen.
• If you prefer to write on your laptop, then bring your laptop.

You’ll learn:

• How to develop vivid characters for stories.
• That every character needs inner conflicts and ambivalence.
• To observe your surroundings more consciously.

This workshop is suitable for:

• Writers and aspiring writers
• Anyone who wants to work on their own writing
• Anyone who wants to create compelling characters

About the Presenter: Martina Anna Linortner
Martina Anna Linortner works as a writing instructor and freelance editor in Strobl am Wolfgangsee. She studied MultiMediaArt at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Vienna, and completed the writing instruction program at BÖS (Professional Association of Austrian Writing Instructors).
