Zoo keepers at the zoo or exciting research adventure in the aquazoo
The summer holidays at Zoo Schmiding will be a truly special experience this year. With two new holiday programs, children and families can not only observe animals but also become actively involved. While young animal lovers get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the zoo and step into the role of a zookeeper, an exciting puzzle adventure awaits small and large explorers in the aquazoo.
Zoo keepers at the zoo
How does a zookeeper’s day actually start, before the first visitors enter the zoo? That’s exactly what children can experience during the summer holidays at Zoo Schmiding. The new holiday program starts at 8:00 a.m., even before regular opening hours. Together with an experienced zookeeper, participants take on real tasks from everyday zoo life and gain exclusive insights into areas that are usually hidden from visitors. Depending on the chosen program, children accompany the zookeepers to the giraffes, white rhinos, or the petting zoo. They help prepare the enclosures, assist with daily tasks, and experience firsthand how the animals go out into their outdoor areas in the morning. They also get to see the two young animals, giraffe bull Moyo and white rhino Nuru, who were born just a few months ago, up close. In addition, the children gain exciting insights into the daily work with tapirs and the animals in the petting zoo.
Throughout the program, zookeepers impart valuable knowledge about animal care, nutrition, behavior, and species protection. Participants experience firsthand how diverse, responsible, and exciting the everyday life of a zookeeper truly is.
Research adventure in the aquazoo
There is also an exciting novelty waiting for visitors at the aquazoo during the summer holidays. In cooperation with STABILO, an interactive adventure has been developed that transforms the aquazoo into an exciting research path. Equipped with a research booklet, children and families embark on a search for clues, solve tricky tasks, and get to know the fascinating inhabitants of the aquazoo better. They must use their observational skills, teamwork, and ability to combine information to solve all the puzzles step by step and find the correct solution code. At the end, a small surprise awaits successful young researchers.
The new adventure combines play, knowledge, and a sense of discovery, making the visit to the aquazoo an exciting experience for the whole family.
“Many children dream of being a zookeeper or looking behind the scenes of a zoo. With our new holiday programs, we want to make that possible. Whether in the morning daily life of the zoo or on an exciting exploration journey through the aquazoo – participants experience animals from a completely new perspective and learn a lot about their needs, lifestyle, and species protection,” says zoo director DDr. Andreas Artmann.
