Zookeeper at the zoo or exciting research trip in the aquazoo
This summer vacation, Zoo Schmiding offers a truly special experience. With two new vacation programs, children and families can not only observe animals but also become active themselves. While young animal lovers get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the zoo and step into the role of a zookeeper, an exciting puzzle adventure awaits small and large explorers at the aquazoo.
Zookeeper at the zoo
How does a zookeeper's day begin, even before the first visitors enter the zoo? That's exactly what children can experience themselves during the summer vacation at Zoo Schmiding. The new vacation program starts at 8:00 a.m., even before the regular opening hours. Together with an experienced zookeeper, participants take on real tasks from everyday zoo life and gain exclusive insights into areas usually hidden from visitors. Depending on the chosen program, children accompany zookeepers to the giraffes, white rhinos, or into the petting zoo. They help prepare the enclosures, assist with daily tasks, and experience firsthand how the animals go outside in the morning. They will also get to see the two young animals that were born a few months ago, giraffe bull Moyo and white rhino Nuru, up close. In addition, the children receive exciting insights into the daily work with tapirs and the animals in the petting zoo.
Throughout the program, the zookeepers share information about animal care, nutrition, behavior, and species protection. Participants experience firsthand how versatile, responsible, and exciting the everyday life of a zookeeper truly is.
Research adventure in the aquazoo
Also at the aquazoo, there is an exciting new feature waiting for visitors during the summer vacation. In cooperation with STABILO, an interactive adventure has been developed that transforms the aquazoo into an exciting research path. Equipped with a research notebook, children and families embark on a search for clues, solve tricky tasks, and get to know the fascinating inhabitants of the aquazoo more closely. They need to use their observation skills, teamwork, and ability to combine in order to gradually solve all the puzzles and find the correct solution code. In the end, successful young researchers will receive a small surprise.
The new adventure combines play, knowledge, and a spirit of discovery, making a visit to the aquazoo an exciting experience for the whole family.
“Many children dream of being a zookeeper or peeking behind the scenes of a zoo. With our new vacation programs, we want to make this possible. Whether during the morning zoo routine or on an exciting discovery journey through the aquazoo – participants experience animals from a completely new perspective and learn a lot about their needs, their way of life, and species protection,” says zoo director DDr. Andreas Artmann.
