This summer vacation will be a truly special experience at Zoo Schmiding. With two new holiday programs, children and families can not only observe animals but also become actively involved. While young animal lovers will receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the zoo and step into the role of a zookeeper, a thrilling puzzle adventure awaits small and big explorers at the aquazoo.

How does a zookeeper's day actually start, even before the first visitors enter the zoo? Children can experience just that during the summer holidays at Zoo Schmiding. The new holiday program starts at 8:00 a.m., before the regular opening hours. Together with an experienced zookeeper, the participants take on real tasks from daily zoo life and gain exclusive insights into areas that are usually hidden from visitors. Depending on the chosen program, the children accompany zookeepers to the giraffes, white rhinoceroses, or the petting zoo. They help prepare the enclosures, assist with daily tasks, and experience up close how the animals go out to their outdoor enclosures in the morning. They will also see the two young animals, giraffe bull Moyo and white rhinoceros Nuru, who were born just a few months ago, up close. Moreover, the children will gain exciting insights into the daily work with tapirs and the animals in the petting zoo.

Throughout the program, the zookeepers share interesting information about animal husbandry, nutrition, behavior, and species protection. Participants experience firsthand how varied, responsible, and exciting the everyday life of a zookeeper truly is.

Research adventure at the aquazoo

Also at the aquazoo, a thrilling new activity awaits visitors during the summer holidays. In cooperation with STABILO, an interactive adventure has been developed that transforms the aquazoo into an exciting research trail. Equipped with a research notebook, children and families embark on a search for clues, solve tricky tasks, and get to know the fascinating inhabitants of the aquazoo better. It is essential to use observation skills, teamwork, and the ability to combine ideas to solve all the puzzles step by step and find the correct solution code. At the end, successful young researchers will find a small surprise awaiting them.

The new adventure combines play, knowledge, and a spirit of discovery, making the visit to the aquazoo an exciting experience for the whole family.

“Many children dream of being zookeepers or seeing behind the scenes of a zoo. With our new holiday programs, we want to make that possible. Whether in the morning zoo routine or on an exciting journey of discovery through the aquazoo – participants experience animals from a completely new perspective and learn a lot about their needs, their way of life, and species conservation,” says zoo director DDr. Andreas Artmann.
