This summer vacation will be a very special experience at Zoo Schmiding. With two new vacation programs, children and families can not only observe animals but also get actively involved. While young animal lovers will get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the zoo and step into the role of a zookeeper, a thrilling riddle adventure awaits small and big explorers at the Aqua Zoo.

How does a zookeeper's day actually begin, even before the first visitors enter the zoo? Children can experience exactly that during the summer vacation at Zoo Schmiding. The new vacation program starts at 8:00 a.m., even before regular opening hours. Together with an experienced zookeeper, the participants take on real tasks from the daily life of the zoo and gain exclusive insights into areas that are usually hidden from visitors. Depending on the chosen program, the children accompany the zookeepers to the giraffes, white rhinoceroses, or the petting zoo. They help prepare the enclosures, assist with daily tasks, and experience up close how the animals go out to their outdoor habitats in the morning. Among other things, they will also get to see the two young animals born just a few months ago, giraffe bull Moyo and white rhinoceros Nuru, up close. In addition, the children will gain exciting insights into the daily work with tapirs as well as the animals in the petting zoo.

Throughout the program, the zookeepers provide valuable information about animal care, nutrition, behavior, and species protection. Participants thus experience firsthand how diverse, responsible, and exciting the everyday life of a zookeeper really is.

Research adventure in the Aqua Zoo

In the Aqua Zoo, an exciting new feature also awaits visitors during the summer vacation. In cooperation with STABILO, an interactive adventure has been developed that transforms the Aqua Zoo into an exciting research trail. Armed with a research booklet, children and families embark on a search for clues, solve tricky tasks, and get to know the fascinating residents of the Aqua Zoo more closely. It requires keen observation, teamwork, and the ability to combine information to gradually solve all the puzzles and find the correct solution code. At the end, a small surprise awaits successful young researchers.

The new adventure combines play, knowledge, and a spirit of discovery, making the visit to the Aqua Zoo an exciting experience for the whole family.

Whether it’s during the morning zoo routine or on an exciting exploratory journey through the Aqua Zoo – participants experience animals from a completely new perspective and learn a lot about their needs, way of life, and species protection,” says zoo director Dr. Andreas Artmann.
