This summer holiday will be a very special experience at Zoo Schmiding. With two new holiday programs, children and families can not only observe animals but also become actively involved. While young animal lovers get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the zoo and step into the role of a zookeeper, a thrilling puzzle adventure awaits little and big explorers in the Aquazoo.

How does a zookeeper’s day actually start, even before the first visitors enter the zoo? Children can experience this for themselves during the summer holidays at Zoo Schmiding. The new holiday program starts as early as 8:00 a.m., even before regular opening hours. Together with an experienced zookeeper, participants take on real tasks from zoo life and gain exclusive insights into areas that are usually hidden from visitors. Depending on the chosen program, children accompany zookeepers to the giraffes, white rhinos, or the petting zoo. They help prepare the enclosures, assist with daily tasks, and get a close-up experience of how the animals go outside in the morning. In the process, they also get to see the two young animals born a few months ago: giraffe bull Moyo and white rhino Nuru up close. Additionally, the children receive exciting insights into the daily work with tapirs and the animals in the petting zoo.

Throughout the program, the zookeepers share valuable information about animal care, nutrition, behavior, and species conservation. In this way, participants experience firsthand how versatile, responsible, and thrilling the daily life of a zookeeper truly is.

Research adventure in the Aquazoo

There is also an exciting new feature waiting for visitors in the Aquazoo during the summer holidays. In cooperation with STABILO, an interactive adventure has been developed that transforms the Aquazoo into an exciting research trail. Equipped with a researcher booklet, children and families embark on a search for clues, solve tricky tasks, and learn more about the fascinating inhabitants of the Aquazoo. They must use their observation skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities to solve all the puzzles step by step and find the correct solution code. At the end, successful young researchers will receive a small surprise.

The new adventure combines play, knowledge, and a spirit of discovery, making the visit to the Aquazoo an exciting experience for the whole family.

Whether in the morning routine of the zoo or on an exciting exploration journey through the Aquazoo – participants will experience animals from a completely new perspective and learn a lot about their needs, their way of life, and species conservation,” says zoo director DDr. Andreas Artmann.
