Mima Schwahn: Where the Hearth is

Mima Schwahn's artistic practice explores geological contexts, material histories and the relationship between human and geological time periods.

The focus is on the technique of stucco marble, in which plaster, pigments and glue are processed into stone-like surfaces. The production process becomes an approach to geological processes between solidity and change, in which natural processes and cultural interpretation intertwine.

The exhibition Where the Hearth Is extends this exploration into the planetary realm. The "Hearth" is not only understood as a place of security, but also as the moving interior of the earth, whose dynamics create conditions of stability in the first place. The works negotiate forms of dwelling and being on the move as provisional states on an earth's surface that is experienced as stable but is constantly in motion and in a state of flux.
