Matthias Kempf is one of the great unknowns of the Austrian music scene. Of course, he is not entirely unknown, and just like his colleagues Andy Baum and Ulli Bäer—with whom he forms a very popular trio—he is considered by connoisseurs to be among the top tier of musicians active in this country. At least as far as the quality of his work is concerned.

In the trio setting, the songs take on a special intensity and intimacy that perfectly reveal the essence of his dialect-based music.
Kempf is (and this is especially true of his concerts) not a one-way express train, but rather a meeting place: sometimes a waiting room for thoughts, sometimes a journey into the absurd—and always a place where you’re happy to linger a little longer…
