Trout Quintet

Sound of Sommerfrische is not a music festival in the conventional sense or a series of concert evenings. It describes a state. A summer retreat as Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms experienced it here on Lake Traunsee.

The biographical origins lie with Roland Greutter's great-great-great-uncle Josef von Spaun, a close friend of Franz Schubert. He was a host by conviction. In his house, music was not performed, but was naturally part of the get-together. Schubert played in his house among friends, embedded in conversations and walks, in days spent together, sometimes as a fisherman with a rod. Music was born out of inspiration, not occasion. This attitude forms the inner core of the festival, which was founded by Roland Greutter.

He invites musicians who have been shaping international musical life for years. Personalities with whom he has developed a close musical relationship or whose voice has reached him anew. They come to Lake Traunsee as summer visitors, often with their families. Not for a project, but for a time in which music is deepened through shared work and closeness.

The two concerts in the Traunkirchen parish church condense this idea into concentrated moments. Franz Schubert's Trout Quintet takes center stage. It becomes the quintessence, the natural pivot. A work of great openness, full of lightness and depth at the same time. At its core, it is a song, broadly stretched and sung together.

Johannes Brahms takes this idea further. Maturity, inner tension and clear form characterize this music. Brahms does not seek the effect, but the essence.

With this attitude, Sound of Sommerfrische becomes part of the Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden. Not as a format, but as inspiration that finds its natural space in this place.

The result is a soirée and matinee in the original sense. Music as a necessity. Open, concentrated and brought to life from the moment.
