Johannes Brahms: The beautiful Magelone (rethought)
Teresa Präauer | Texts and readingIn addition to the 15 romances set to music, this evening focuses on the award-winning author Teresa Präauer, who opens up new perspectives on Johannes Brahms' only song cycle "Die schöne Magelone" with a great deal of humor, a sympathetic wink and her inimitable power of speech. Although the intermediate texts of the original version date from Brahms' time by Ludwig Tieck, they have been deliberately left behind in this new version: Präauer has written completely new texts, which she reads live and interprets herself - combining words and music in a contemporary, sometimes surprising, but always emotive way.
Together with the internationally successful baritone Rafael Fingerlos, who sees the classical art song as a personal affair of the heart and continues it with his charismatic, authentic and highly emotional storytelling, and his song partner, pianist Sascha El Mouissi, a multi-layered musical-literary experience is created.
The story of Peter and Magelone is brought into the 21st century with a great deal of creativity, wit, subtle humor and great emotionality, and a central work of song literature is retold.
In the second part of the evening, Lied.fest presents a program that builds a bridge to contemporary song language with the critically and audience acclaimed Duo Oehl - led by singer and songwriter Ariel Oehl. The line-up combines pop and poetry to create an honest and emotional form of musical storytelling. Oehl's art thrives on the art of language, lyrical precision, atmospheric depth and a fine sense of subtle nuances, and - in keeping with the song tradition - songs in which language and music are inextricably intertwined.
The fact that the song is still a powerful and contemporary form of expressing emotions musically can be experienced here once again.
Disclaimer:
Cross-genre surprises are expressly not excluded. The artists of the first half of the concert will remain in the hall - and perhaps not only as listeners ...
An evening for song lovers - and for all those who would like to become one.
