Odile Tevie from the local cultural center Nubuke Foundation in Akkra, Ghana, will be in Haslach for two weeks in July 2026 as part of a Dialogue Residency to get to know the structure of the Textile Center Haslach and to enter into an exchange.
Ghana is one of the countries in the world that is most affected by the mountains of used clothing from Western countries. Entire regions are devastated by gigantic mountains of textiles. Despite and at the same time because of these exuberant problems, a unique art scene has developed in Ghana that exclusively uses used clothing as a starting point for artistic works.
In a lecture, Odile reports on the situation in her country and uses many examples of exciting artists to show the interesting statements and artistic positions that are often hardly noticed in Europe.
