As part of the exhibition in the Galerie im Gwölb, various textiles are on display, all of which tell profound stories.
More than four million people in Bangladesh, especially women, live from textile production. The aim of the garment industry is limited to meeting global standards and producing a perfect, standardized T-shirt cheaply. Economic growth is generally associated with increasing exploitation of resources. But the wonderful and unique textile culture of Bangladesh in its rich diversity is being ignored and is in danger of being lost. Dipdii Textiles is taking a different approach. Instead of using a lot of resources for development, the time, skills and creativity of local people are used. By embroidering on recycled saris, quilt-like textiles such as wall hangings or utility textiles are created by hand - each piece is artistically unique. The project demonstrates the possibility of alternative production "Made in Bangladesh": participatory, sustainable, decentralized, based on local textile traditions, with each piece improving the quality of life of individual families.Opening in the Galerie im Gwölb: Wed, July 22, 6:30 pm
