He gives an insight into his work with recycled denim and sustainable production processes. He shows how craftsmanship and industry can be combined in innovative ways.

With "New Blue", Dutch-born, Berlin-based textile designer Tim van der Loo explores alternative approaches to the circular economy and production processes in the fashion industry. His focus is on a very popular textile, denim, which is produced in large quantities in the jeans industry as offcuts or used textiles. His work shows that denim can be part of a continuous material cycle. He has developed a process that shreds the used textiles into fiber material. Using a special nonwoven technology and digitally supported industrial embroidery, the denim remnants are then combined to form a stable fabric. The patterns for the garments are created in parallel, optimizing the entire production process and minimizing waste.
Tim van der Loo has received several awards for his work and will be giving a hands-on workshop on this process at the summer symposium in Haslach.
In his presentation, he will talk about his career, his research process and his work at the interface between craftsmanship and industry, mass production and sustainability.
