Work and the city were closely linked for a long time.
Today, both work and the city are facing major challenges in their own right. In order to promote the breeding ground for urbanity through diversity, inclusion and dynamic, stable structures, the interplay between work and the city must be constantly rethought. City dwellers have a decisive role to play here, as they are the ones who are constantly designing new forms of cooperation through the exchange of local knowledge and creativity and in everyday practices. The city can be understood as the place where this is made possible for people. Urban development that sees itself as inviting, inclusive and interdisciplinary offers society a wide range of tools to productively support social, ecological and economic urban redevelopment. This requires "democratic and public spaces", an attitude of "curare et reparare" and an appreciation of biodiversity and diverse ecologies. They form the breeding ground for the future viability of our cities.
As a district on the move, "Linz Central" offers an excellent local case study. "Over the railroad", it is located in the geographical center of the Linz urban region and yet is perceived as peripheral by the city's population.
It is a real working district that has already undergone major redevelopment in recent times and faces further transformation processes in the coming years. Nine "test sites" in the district illustrate this structural change and make it possible to discuss aspects of the future of work and re-mixing in concrete urban space.
The "working" exhibition presents diverse tools of urban planning and architecture, which are casually shown to an interested urban population in "working" on the basis of the activities of students on site, thus conveying the rich perspectives and spatial contexts in dialog. Because cities are never finished, they remain ... in progress.
