Gabi Kreslehner reads from her new book "Who We Have Become".
At the beginning of the 20th century, Juli lives with her husband August on the mountain at the Unterhof. The fact that, even after several years of marriage, there is still no offspring deeply saddens her. She looks enviously at the neighbors at the Oberhof, where three children are already playing. Only after the war, which August miraculously survives, does Juli give birth to a healthy daughter in November 1919: Anna grows up to be a cheerful girl and later falls in love with Karl, the heir from the Oberhof. Soon the two marry, as Anna is pregnant and Karl has received his conscription order – three days after the wedding he must go to the front. Will they ever see each other again?
Shortly before the turn of the millennium, Joanna, Anna's daughter, discovers a photo of a little boy in her mother's house outside of New York. She is both fascinated and unsettled, tucking it away and taking it home. For weeks, this image occupies Joanna's mind until she finally confronts her mother. And her mother finally begins to tell her story…
A moving family saga about happiness, loss, solidarity, sacrifices, and the journey home in the long 20th century.
Afterwards, we invite you to a cozy get-together.
