Friendship in music

25.04.2026 / 19:00
Linz, Palais Kaufmännischer Verein
Musikveranstaltung, Konzert

The story of great composers such as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvořák shows how deeply human friendship and artistic inspiration can be connected.

Mendelssohn and Schumann had a close, trusting relationship that went beyond music. Brahms became a loyal support to Schumann and his wife Clara - and remained a sincere friend to Clara even after Robert's death. Johannes Brahms had a deep friendship with Antonin Dvořák, based on great mutual respect. The older and then already famous Johannes Brahms made Antonín Dvořák famous by recommending Dvořák to his own publisher Simrock.
This resulted in Dvořák's Op. 46 - "Slavonic Dances" (1878) and that was for Dvořák
The big breakthrough overnight!

This chain of mutual inspiration and support shows Friendship is the true art of life - and music its soul.
