Glaciers are considered important indicators of climate change. In Austria, glaciers are melting at a rapid pace. By the middle of this century, there will hardly be any glaciers left in the Eastern Alps.
The exhibition at the Schlossmuseum, which was created in collaboration with the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research in Innsbruck, shows how glaciers are researched and the important role they play when it comes to understanding climate change. At the center of the exhibition is an ice core from the Ötztal Alps from which up to 6,000 years of climate history can be read. Like an archive, the ice stores data on the composition of the air, the temperature, but also on the spread of plants and much more.Museumstraße 14, 4020 Linz
