Linz, Tribüne Linz
Theater

Frank Wedekind's 1906 drama has lost none of its relevance. It sheds light on the challenges faced by young people caught between sexuality, social norms, peer pressure and parental expectations. In German language.

The play is set in a small town and follows young people as they discover their identity and sexuality. The main characters, Melchior Gabor, Moritz Stiefel and Wendla Bergmann, are representative of young people at the beginning of their coming-of-age period. Wedekind's fearless yet sensitive treatment of taboo subjects, which were controversial in his time and are still thought-provoking today, is particularly impressive.

The production draws connections to modern issues such as sexting, cyberbullying and the pressure exerted on young people by social media. It shows how timeless the problems of youth are and how social repression can affect the development of individuals. The play thus not only offers a historical insight, but also enables reflection on current challenges.
