Historic Zillenfahrt on Lake Traunsee: Meeting point museum on International Museum Day

Traunkirchen. To mark the week of activities surrounding International Museum Day, Arche Kult Traunkirchen and TV Traunsee Almtal Industrie Kultur, together with the Weg des Salzes association, invite you to a special historical adventure trip. Under the motto "Meeting Point Museum", the salt train "Gmundner Zwölfer Traunauer" will be a guest at the old Traunkirchen salt harbor on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

The historic boat trip recalls the centuries-old importance of salt shipping on Lake Traunsee and brings this important chapter of regional industrial and cultural history to life. The free round trips (voluntary donation) start every hour from 11 am, the last trip at 4 pm. Reservations are recommended. In the event of bad weather, the event will take place on the alternative date of May 9, 2026.

The route leads from the Traunkirchen town square around the Johannsberg, on to the old salt harbor, past the Traunkirchen monastery with an impressive view of the Winkelbucht bay and then back to the starting point.

Visitors can expect a varied supporting program to accompany the Zillenfahrt:
The Arche Kult Museum is open on this day from 10 am to 6 pm. The TV Traunsee-Almtal Industrie Kultur event bus will also be on site and will be supervised by Johann Prangl. In addition, the outdoor escape game "Hunt for the Pirate Treasure of Traunkirchen" invites you to an interactive adventure (booking on site at Café Johannsberg, further information at www.escape-traunkirchen.at).
