The means of the mixed wind ensemble Federspiel have blossomed after more than two decades: “We and Now” puts to music the great questions of our time. It also promises to pause time in the moment of the concert with music and to create a connection with the audience that touches everyone and ideally changes them.

We and Now
We. We starts with two. A family, a band. A nation and the whole planet. For the musicians of Federspiel, we is more than just a simple count. We includes the knowledge and views of all generations before us. We here and now are merely the youngest in an endless series of tree rings, each of which has its own story to tell.
And thus we arrive at Now. For the seven musicians, this means: the right involvement, the right timing, and the magic of the moment of each performance. For this narrow strip between past and future is the only space left for us. Us as artists, as humans, as humanity. Only in the now are we. Only in the now can we act, move things and people.
These ideas have inspired Federspiel for their new program: We and Now puts to music the great questions of our time. It is a call to tackle the urgent problems of our planet together and now immediately. We and Now also promises to pause time in the moment of the concert with music and to create a connection with the audience that touches everyone and ideally changes them.
The means of the mixed wind ensemble have blossomed after more than two decades: Inclusion instead of demonstration, light-footed virtuosity instead of ostentatious acrobatics. A renunciation of market-shouting habits, in favor of stimulating and touching compositions. That is what distinguishes Federspiel. And that is exactly We and Now.

Feel free to call them a brass band! But what the gentlemen of Federspiel bring to the stage likely disproves most of the expectations that the term entails. Nevertheless, they are, feel free to say it: a brass band. But one of an exceptional class, which, elegantly as little else, unites new and traditional, played and sung, lightness and depth in their music.
As an artistic heavyweight with feather-light compositions in tow, Federspiel has long been performing on the great concert stages worldwide. Their performances have taken them from Scandinavia to Egypt and from the USA back to the beautiful Wachau, where the ensemble was founded in 2004.
In hundreds of concerts – from the noble philharmonic hall to the rustic pub hall – Federspiel developed its own musical language in the tension between tradition and modernity and established itself as one of the most innovative ensembles in the European brass music scene. 
Pioneering yet always full of respect, the ensemble weaves in echoes from the Nordic music tradition with alpine repertoire, percussive playing techniques with electronic sounds, to create something new – contemporary music that pays homage to its past just as respectfully as it boldly designs its future.
