Braided - willow & paper

14.01.2026 / 10:00- 18:00 (Further dates)
Freistadt, mük - Mühlviertel Kreativ Haus
Ausstellung, Thematische Ausstellung

Nicole Kudla and Hildegard Neumaier explore the traditional craft of weaving. In their joint exhibition at mük, they show how they use willow rods, paper and other materials to create timelessly beautiful objects that carry their very own message into the world. The exhibition in the gallery on the second floor is open from January 7 to February 28 from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.

Paper - cut, folded, wrapped, interwoven
In Nicole Kudla's weaving workshop, the artist experiments with various materials and techniques. The current focus is on paper. At mük, she is showing various objects that are both functional and decorative. The exhibition piece "Prosthesis", for example, tells of the transformation of newsprint that has become worthless into a permanent object. "Newsprint is an everyday, perishable material. Processed in the weave, the new object is physical, usable, but no longer legible. The act of weaving turns the ephemeral medium into a permanent object. Like a prosthesis, it replaces something lost and transient," is how Nicole Kudla explains her work.

Willow wood - flexible, strong and alive
Hildegard Neumaier has dedicated herself to the traditional weaving technique with willow rods. Under the motto "Hildegard - wie fia di gmocht" (Hildegard - as made for you), her work tells of the value of regional craftsmanship and the idea of bringing it into the present with simple shapes and fine details. The baskets and bags on display at mük are valuable, unique, beautiful and durable pieces. "The naturalness of the willow can be felt in my work - whether in functional pieces or decorative objects. The willow is flexible and lively and yet retains its very own character," explains Hildegard Neumaier. She combines self-confidence and joie de vivre with this natural material.
