Vienna Tschuschenkapelle
For over 35 years, we have been musical ambassadors between cultures, with a special focus on music from Austria and the Balkan countries. In the age of ethnic and world music, we guarantee that multiculturalism is not reduced to a boring, superficial crossover, but rather that the diversity and individuality of music from different cultures are highlighted. Many of our musicians have been trained at Austrian music universities and have found a new musical home in Vienna. Politically, we advocate for peaceful coexistence among all people and carry this message on numerous foreign tours, from Brazil and Canada to Zimbabwe and Morocco, beyond Austrian and European borders. We were recently honored to represent Austrian culture by performing at several festivals in New York.
Our repertoire consists of traditional and self-composed songs from the Balkan countries, serenades from the Mediterranean, Turkish-Arabic-Oriental melodies, Greek Rembetiko, Bosnian Sevdalinka, and much more. We take excursions to Russia, brush against the Viennese song (after all, we are called the Vienna Tschuschenkapelle), experiment with gypsy jazz, and even venture into classical music (for example, we played with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Vienna State Opera). Performed live, the program is always a mix of pieces from our CDs, new songs that have not yet been recorded, and also those that are being premiered. The irregular Balkan rhythms, especially 7/8 and 9/8 beats, are a special musical treat.
The formation of the Vienna Tschuschenkapelle consists of both classically trained musicians and "experts" from the Balkan music scene.
