Album - the muse at work.
We celebrate the women who wrote songs.Based on nine selected pieces that were either dedicated by jazz musicians to their female partners or composed by women, the dancer and choreographer Naïma Mazic performs with the singer, composer and pianist Golnar Shahyar and a record player.
"Album" follows the dramaturgy of a concert. Between the tracks, narratives emerge that transport the audience to New York jazz clubs, Viennese bedrooms or even their own living rooms. Bodies, music and movements change from song to song, from A-side to B-side and contain relationships that swing from familiar to professional, from inspiring to possessive.
A seductive ballad becomes the melody of another love story. Polyrhythmic choreographies deal with the figure and role of the "muse", the position of women as an artistic stimulus and shed light on difficulties, efforts, disappointments and aspirations.
Dancer and choreographer Naïma Mazic founded the Austrian non-profit organization more2rhythm and the international dance and music company n ï m in 2016. Together with a changing team of dancers, musicians and artists, she explores how movement and (jazz) music meet in a common language. n ï m - from the German "nehmen" - stands for learning, understanding and the exchange that gives rise to something new.
