Introduction to the Schwammerling Trail
This beautiful route starts on the sports field road heading south. After a moderate climb, the trail enters the forest and continues along paths and trails to the Köhlerwiese. Typical of the Mühlviertel region, the route leads over granite stones jutting out of the barren meadows and on through the thatched Groß-Döllnerhof farm.
Passing the Hubertus Chapel, the route continues to the Karl Weichselbaumer lookout point, directly after which it passes the picturesque "Steinwiese ", one of the region's most beautiful natural jewels.
From now on, it's all downhill - you get a real trail feeling as you head towards Plenkerberg and on to the bathing lake. The trail leads along the promenade path to the Rechberg parish church. A short asphalt section invites you to take a deep breath before continuing on to the village of Winkl.
After a refreshment stop at the Landjugend-Labe, the heart of the route begins: the climb over the "Schwammerling" up to the "Fuchsmauern". A steep, rooty descent through the forest is a reminder to be careful. The route continues with a magnificent panorama, past the Steinbloß-Hof Kinzlhofer and down a short stretch of road to the finish.
